When Life Gets You Down...Look Up
We're going to skip #TravelTuesday today to talk about something that has been on my heart lately. Sometimes life can throw us a few curve balls. Things we don't understand or are out of our control. It's easy to feel defeated and even second guess yourself when difficult situations present themselves. I am a big people pleaser, something I wouldn't say I am proud of. I can't stand feeling as if someone disapproves of what I am doing. Sure, there are bigger flaws that a person can have, but it gets pretty exhausting after a while. It's a hard truth to realize, but try as you may, you just can't please everyone. Sometimes it's necessary to put all outside opinions aside and focus on what you feel is best for you at that time.
If you're a self-proclaimed, and often openly labeled people pleaser like me, it is so very important to follow your heart and most importantly pray about the situation. There are some things we just can't fix on our own and only the big man upstairs can make it happen. Something I often remind myself of is that everything happens for a reason. I don't care what it is, this is something God has shown me time and time again, yet I still doubt Him. It's only human nature to doubt what we cannot see, but as believers we have to remember the promises God has for us. We may not know every detail of His plan for us, but it's sure as heck going to pan out exactly the way it is meant to. I cannot tell you the number of times I have sat worrying about something or beating myself up about something that I messed up only for it to work out in a way that is so much better than I ever imagined it could be. If we would just sit down and listen to Him and trust Him we would find that His plan for us is so much more extraordinary than anything we could ever dream up.
Listen and trust. I know, those two things are a whole lot easier said than done. We always have a picture perfect fantasy of how we expect things to go. But that's just it, that's our picture, not His. I promise you, His plan is so much bigger than yours, it's so much bigger than you. Just listen and trust His promises, and remember, when life gets you down look up to Him.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Psalm 34:8 NIV
Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare. Psalm 40:5 NIV
Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10 NIV
Therefore we do not loose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NIV
