Fall & Summer Style Collide

This past weekend was full of sunshine and beautiful weather.  Anytime there is low humidity and a low heat index during July in Kentucky, you take advantage.  If you read my last style post then you know how I feel about the heat.  It’s definitely not my favorite thing about Kentucky living.  If I had it my way, it would be fall weather almost all of the time with a sprinkle of snow here and there.

Whenever the weather is mild like this weekend, I try to mix some of my fall and winter pieces in with my summer pieces.  In general, I typically gravitate toward more subdued colors like army green, maroon, blue, black, white, and brown so when I get to throw some of these into my summer looks, I’m one happy girl.

These army green pants are one of my favorite fall pieces I purchased from LOFT last year.  They’re the perfect boyfriend fit, ankle length when they’re unrolled, and pair well with just about any color.  I typically pair them with flats and a sweater, but this black and white floral blouse and embellished sandals are the perfect way to transition them into summer.

My sandals are from Target a few years ago and they still look brand new.  They’re my go-to for a comfy stylish look, plus they were under $20.  Target is a great place to find inexpensive, nice shoes.

I pair this necklace with just about every other outfit I wear.  The simple design and neutral colors allow me to style it with looks from every season.  It’s a great piece for traveling because it does go with so many things.  I can pack it, a few pairs of earrings, and a bracelet and I’m good to go.

My love affair with ruffles continues with this top from LOFT.  The fun detail dresses it up a bit, but still allows it to pair nicely with jeans or pants like these.  It looks cute tucked into a skirt for work or with slacks and a cardigan as well.

Don't limit your wardrobe by labeling pieces by season.  Obviously some pieces, like coats and thick sweaters, are a bit limited depending on where you live.  In general though, it's usually possible to transition pieces into the current season.  Just as I transitioned these pants, I could wear this shirt in the fall with a cardigan over it.  I have a ton of pieces like this that I can wear for any season or occasion.  Buy certain pieces with the intent of making them transitional and you will have a much more versatile wardrobe.
