Black & Denim with a Little Sparkle
Black and denim is a staple combination in my wardrobe. When I can't figure out what to wear, I usually fall back on a nice black shirt, jeans, and flats or sandals depending on the occasion. I've talked before about my love for statement pieces, when I shop for black tops, I focus on fun details. Black clothing can get a bad wrap for being boring and even dreary at times, this is why it is essential to look for fun details. The ruffle detail on this Banana Republic top was the first thing that caught my eye when I saw it. The fit is great and the low back makes it flirty and fun. They no longer carry this specific top, but I've link some similar styles below (both an extra 40% off).
Every girl needs a good pair of dark wash jeans, they go with everything and can be dressed up or down. This pair is the Gap jegging style skinny jean in a mid-dark wash. They aren't too low or high rise and they're very simple with no stitched detailing on the pockets, which I love. Let's be honest, no one washes their jeans every time they wear them, it wears the jeans out and keeps them from lasting. I can typically wear these jeans two or three times between washes and they keep their shape well without stretching out too much. I would take advantage right now because they are currently 40% off making them under $40.
Every simple outfit like this needs a fun statement necklace to make it pop. This necklace from Francesca's is a few years old, but they always have similar pieces like these. Target is another great place to purchase a piece like this without spending a fortune.
The last staple piece in this look are these black Nine West flats from last year (which are 30% off right now!). They are super comfortable and work for both business and casual looks. I personally love pointy flats, they're more comfortable on my feet and I think they are a bit more sleek. The bow detailing adds a nice feminine touch as well.
When you're working on your wardrobe, don't forget to include some of these pieces. They can be mixed and matched with anything and everything and they're always a good last resort.
